Arunachal win 3 medals in National Karate Championship
ITANAGAR, Aug 19: Arunachal bagged a gold and two bronze medals in the 25th Senior
All India Karate-
While Tam Tapak struck the yellow metal in 67 Kg category Debia Yakap and Charu Aroti
won a bronze medal each in 68 Kg category to qualify for the 35th National Games
to be held at Bangalore, according to Arunachal Karate-
Besides Tapak, Yakap and Aroti three more players from the state have also qualified for the national games.
Tapak is presently serving in ITBP and Yakap in Tax and Excise Department as Assistant Tex & Excise Inspector. Charu Aroti is serving in Power Department (Elect) as UDC.
Sensei SD Sharma and Sensei Tai Hipik led the state team as coaches.
It is worth mentioning here that the state government honoured both Yakap and Coach Sharma with Gold and Silver medals respectively in the 66th Independence Day Celebration here in recognition of their outstanding performance and contribution towards development of the sports in Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has shared his deep sense of grief over the reported death of 11 people in a tragic road accident near Bhalukpong in West Kameng District today, according to a release from CM’s media cell.
While ordering the district administration and police to immediately launch rescue operation, CM spoke to Army, seeking their help in rescue operation.
Reportedly, out of 13 passengers (all non tribals), who were coming from Tawang to Tezpur in a passenger daily Tata Sumo service, only two passengers managed to escape the fatal accident by sustaining grievous injuries. They have been evacuated to Tezpur for further treatment, the release added.
Dengue detected in East Siang, preventive measures on
PASIGHAT, Aug 19: A drastic raise in the numbers of fever cases in and around Pasighat township prompted the General Hospital Administration, Pasighat under the Jt. DHS (T & R) to collect blood samples and send to ICMR Dibrugarh for diagnosis. Out of 118 blood samples, 4 cases have been confirmed as Dengue.
It has also been informed that out of the total blood samples for diagnosis, 40 cases has been diagnosis as Scrub Typhus.

In Bangalore, police beefed up security, deploying 17,000 personnel as government put its security machinery in top gear to instill a sense of confidence among North Easterners.
Three companies each of CRPF and RAF, 25 KSRP (Karnataka State Reserve Police) platoons and 35 City Armed Reserve platoons, 1,500 trainee policemen and 500 Home Guards are also being deployed here, Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji told reporters.
Pickets would be posted and round the clock patrolling done to maintain law and order, he said, adding peace committee meetings have been held with various communities, with security measures being taken in view of Eid also.

Police said the number of those leaving, which was around 2000 every day, had dropped to less than 1,000 today.
North Eastern people, who left Chennai for their home towns, are mostly from Tiruppur and Namakkal in Tamil Nadu.

ITANAGAR, Aug 19: A goodwill team from Arunachal Pradesh headed by MP Takam Sanjoy reached Hyderabad today for coordinating with state government concerned for pressing for security and protection of NE students studying in various South Indian cities, according to a release from Hyderabad by KN Damon, deputy resident commissioner, Delhi.
A group of Arunachalee students pursuing higher and technical education in Hyderabad met the state goodwill team and told that they are safe in Hyderabad and there was no effect of the remours of impending attacks. Representatives of other NE states also met the team and expressed gratitude to the Arunachal Pradesh government for sending the Good Will Team. The students assured the team to maintain cordial relations with the locals and fellow citizens besides maintaining their regular study with sincerity, the release informed.
The team urged the respective NE State Govt and parents to send their children back, who were recently selected for various technical and non technical streams, without any further delay as peace and communal harmony is prevailing there inspite of the remours, the release claimed.
A Peace Mission Team comprising representatives of other NE states constituted by Sanjoy was also proceeding to Mysore and Hoobli tonight with peace message.
Earlier, the Good Will Team was accorded a warm reception on their arrival at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad by Arshad Khan, a local Muslim leader and his team.
Govt extends financial assistance to upcoming tennis player

“Chief Minister has recently granted Rs 2 lakhs based on recommendation of the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs to the budding tennis player,” informed general secretary of ‘Talom Brothers’ of Pasighat Tarin Talom.
The young player was selected to train in Wholeistic Tennis Academy at New York early this year, but his trip to USA was reportedly delayed mainly due to passport and financial problems.
Father of Mingkhi Dr. Tarik Talom had applied to the Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Director of School Education and the Secretary, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh for financial assistance to his son. The ‘Talom Brother’s Union’ of Pasighat had also appealed to the state government, Adi Bane Kebang, Adi Students’ Union and other local organizations to encourage and extend financial support to the budding player in this hour of need.
The Talom Brothers and Kepang Welfare Society have expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Nabam Tuki for providing financial assistance. They also admire role of Pasighat West MLA Tangor Tapak and AdiSU leaders in perusing the matter with the government. Mingkhi was in media limelight in recent days due to his outstanding performance in a series of AITA Tennis tournaments. Workers need proper health care
ITANAGAR, Aug 19: Pitching for the proper health care of the workers, Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWWB) Chairman Jalley Sonam said that workers need to take care of health and regular health check up since many of them having no proper diet and protein.
He was addressing at the mega health camp conducted by APBOCWWB at Kimi 40 kilometer off Bhalukpong in West Kameng on Friday with an objective to give proper health attention to workers and also to create awareness on dreaded disease like HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis.
Appealing the workers to register themselves in board to avail the benefits including health facilities, Sonam further informed that the board would conduct medical health camp time to time particularly in major projects areas.
Thousands patients were benefited during the health camp, which was attended by two doctors from NEEPCO and a lady doctor from general hospital Bomdila. The Chairman further gave away the death benefits to registered workers, namely, Kumari Sonar of Power Department and Mini Maya of DC office Bomdila.
Seven registered workers were also got medical benefits from the Board. Sonam along with Secretary of the Board Ojing Darung distributed the free exercise books to children of registered workers. Chairman further appealed the power developers in the district to give priority to local people while maintaining 80:20 job quota. The health camp was also actively participated by All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union West Kameng unit and Kassar Valley Organization an NGO of the district.

Speaking to this correspondent here today, the local MLA clarified that the land supposed to be belonging to his wife and for which he had allegedly received approximately Rs 37 lakhs as compensation infact did not belong to him or his wife. ‘I had gifted away the said land for construction of a school way back in 2009 through a gift deed. I have valid records to prove this and I am soon going to share the same with the High Court, he explained, while adding that the question of his claiming compensation thus did not arise.
Further clearing the wrong facts on the issue, Phurpa informed that the money meant for compensation was still parked with the Additional Deputy Commissioner Dirang. ‘The money meant for compensation of the said plot of land along with others is still to be disbursed and lying with ADC Dirang. Had I wanted compensation for the land in question, I would have claimed it a long time back. This erroneous portrayal of fact and misinformation campaign directed against me is undertaken by my political opponent to tarnish my clean image and settle political scores. The High Court has also been fed with wrong facts and I am also in the process of knocking at the doors of justice to bring the issue to a logical end’, he explained.
KLA appeals for relief assistance
ITANAGAR, Aug 19: The Kameng Lawyers Association (KLA) has called on concerned authorities to provide relief assistance to one Khamo Desisow (advocate). The KLA said that the house of Desisow, information and publicity secretary of the association, was washed away by landslide triggered by torrential rainfall at Bomdila town on 7th August. Desisow, however, narrowly escaped from jaws of death and sustained grievous injury, it further informed. KLA claimed that though family members had approached department of relief and rehabilitation through DRRO for help till now there has been no help. Khamo Desisow is a practicing lawyer with additional district and session court, west session division, Bomdila.
VKV Chimpu shines in the state level quiz competition
Itanagar, Aug 19: Vivekendra Vidyalaya Chimpu, Itanagar won the first prize in the state level quiz competition organised by APEDA under the sponsorship of Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Intaya Public School, Roing and VKV Banderdewa walked away with second and third position respectively.
Teams from thirteen schools participated in the competition organised on the eve of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary on August 20 which is observed as Renewable Energy Day.
The prizes to the winners will be distributed by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.
Two separate rallies would also be taken out from Mithun gate and Ganga market to Banquet Hall at 7. 30 am tomorrow as part of the Renewable Energy Day celebration.
Malaria awareness camp
ITANAGAR, Aug 19: Self Help Group (SHG) Old is Gold in collaboration with District Upper Subansiri Vector Borne Disease Control Programme organized a Malaria awareness camp at New Riba Village of Upper Subansiri on August 8.
The camp was conducted by Dr. T Taying, DMO, Dr. N Geyi, DVBDCPO and Dr. D Saikia, MO, Dumporijo CHC as resource persons.
While informing about the causes of Malaria its preventive measures, the resource persons advised the people to use bed net during night to protect themselves from mosquito bite, the major cause of malaria disease. The villagers were also advised to take Malaria drugs as per prescription of the physicians. Wrong medication may lead to serious health problems, they said.
Rapid Malaria Test (RMT) were conducted among 304 patients out of which 187 were found positive.
Medicated mosquito nets were also distributed among the villagers.
The camp covered adjoining villages, including New Riba, Old Riba, Old Rilo, New Rilo and Jijiru.

“A tiny effort to refurbish our image in the society”
Dear Editor,
Talking about cleanliness and pollution free environment in the present miserable era of my state, might sound like cheering for Olympics when my country is on war, but I still expect the wise readers to have a patient listening to my thoughts which might sound more like mere bunch of fathead ideas for many at this point of time.
Well nowadays, I have quitted blaming the group of elderly mass who keep on raising fingers at the younger generation on every move we make, because at some point of my mind I believe we have rightfully earned our status of being fruitless, futile buffoons. When the young denizens, the so called “futures” of our state, are themselves on a blind rage of corruption, hypocrisy, encouraging ethnic and communal sentiments, dancing on the hands of corrupt leaders like puppets, and now even trying to stop the truth bearers of our society, “the press” by vandalizing media houses and shooting a selfless journalist just to sustain fear!!
The present state of faithlessness on us is rightfully justified by our deeds. In the midst of this agnosticism, if a positive minded group of youth comes up with an idea of refurnishing the society with a tiny effort, he should be all set to face a severe skepticism from the society.
Even In this state of distrust, dubiousness, and reluctance, a group of likeminded youths has once again gathered the guts to reinstate the positive image of ARUNACHALI YOUTH by putting forward their initiative for contributing a bit to the society. “The green pioneers” have returned with their new cleanup event this time bannered “GRAB A SHOVEL TO CLEAN UP I.G PARK” to clean up the lone left patch of greenery in whole of the capital complex. “THE INDIRA GANDHI PARK, ITANAGAR”, located exotically, in the centre of the capital city, was once the green landmark that filtered the dusty Itanagar air rushing inside our lungs every day. But in this short span of few years, the once serene environment of the park has been overshadowed by a series of controversial digging and constructions all over the area. Hence the park that once resembled a golf course, today looks more like VIRENDAR SEHWAG’S bald “Helipad” (hope he has discontinued the anti hair fall tonic he was using). Even if we leave aside the litigious conjuncture, happening around the park, the greenery of the pitiful esplanade is lost in the midst of pollution; in all three forms:
noise, air and water. A place that should have been a symbol of absolute eternal stillness is today polluted by big loudspeakers blasting with “maut ka kua” promotions. A mephitic sewer flows by the heart of the park, and the deforestation and loss of greenery has severely diminished the viridity of the location. More to worsen the situation, the public events that are regularly organized in the vicinity of the park, leaving behind huge amount of degradable and non degradable dump, that are found in litters all over the park. The young brigade of green activists, which is already riding high on its spirits by successfully cleaning up all the adjoining tourists’ spots in the vicinity of capital complex, is all set to restore some lost serenity, of the mighty I.G Park.
Actively involved in sensitizing the ignorant Arunachalee public on the importance of cleanliness in the last few months, “the green pioneers” have four major successful campaigns under its belt, and have assisted and motivated a dozen other small cleanup events all around the state. Which started as a small viral event page in a social networking site “face book” couple of months ago, has been successfully motivating and encouraging likeminded youths of the state in this noble venture of a making a cleaner and greener Arunachal.
When young students and selfless citizens from all over the capital complex started with cleaning up of the Naharlagun market, on 7th of April this year, everyone thought it to be an accidental spark which would never ignite, but the fire it created and spread both virally and through cleanup events has made the difference. The most encouraging part being the mass involvement of responsible youths from all sects of communities irrespective of their differences, joining hands for the success of this noble cause, steering the events to success conducted every time.
This drive to cleanup I.G Park is scheduled on 20th of August from 7a.m onwards, to clear the post independence garbage that has been accumulating there, unattended since last couple of days. The whole team of green pioneers requests and invites each and every likeminded soul in the capital complex area to be part of the event and make it a successful one. The time for blaming the government bodies is over, it’s the right moment, and we change our concept of treating, public property as nobody’s property. We need to show what needs to be done, not by just saying it, but by doing it.
It is rightfully said, “A journey of thousand miles starts with a single step”, likewise, our dream of making a clean and green Arunachal is still on its baby steps, and nevertheless, our hopes are sky high. Every time the younger siblings hold hands, to make such a noble venture, we not only bring the change with every small step we take, but moreover, we give our elders a “hope”, a hope for a better tomorrow, a hope for a conscious Arunachal. Strictly regulate the inner line permits, stop illegal immigration
Dear Editor,
“Prevention is better than cure” is a very common statement in our everyday life, but how many of you really felt the essence of these words. By learning about the recent murder case that took place in Yazali, we cannot believe that such a heinous crime can also occur inside our own state, which is termed as one of the peaceful States of India.
Whatever is happening in Arunachal at present is the manifestation of our own indigenous people. Everyone wants to stay lavish and keep many hired labors for their everyday household works which repeatedly increase the population and crimes in the state.
By observing the past and present incidents inside and outside Arunachal Pradesh, I, on behalf of the Arunachal Students’ Union Delhi (ASUD), appeal the people of the state to minimize hiring labors from neighboring state which is one of the factors in increasing heinous crimes and growing number of population (Immigration). Simultaneously, I appeal to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh to strictly regulate the inner line permits to stop the illegal immigration inside the state. The ASUD also mourns for the departed soul of our sister Ralo Rene, appeals the authority to give an exemplary punishment to the culprits and recompense should be equally worthy towards her life.

Finally, it’s been one month since the shooting of the associate editor of Arunachal Times and still the culprits are absconding. I am quite surprised. Did the perpetrators vanish from earth or it is the inefficiency of our police department ? I do not want to blame the police personnel, they are doing their best, but how technically equipped they are depends on the state government.

Save Puakgumin from deluge
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to draw the attention of concern authorities towards the danger of flood we the people of Puakgumin, Aalo have been facing since long. Each year with the advent of monsoon the water level keeps on rising, washing away the land inch by inch. Many appeals have been made and IFCD Engineers, District Administration, MLA have also visited the affected area but no relief has been provided so far.
The only barrier that stood between Sipu River and Puakgumin is the few flood controls embankment constructed at the expense of the residents themselves. Therefore, it is being appealed again to the authorities to do something before all of Puakgumin gets submerged.

ILO report on global employment
After three years of continuous crisis conditions in global labour markets and against the prospect of a further deterioration of economic activity, there is a backlog of global unemployment of 200 million, says the ILO in its annual report titled “Global Employment Trends 2012: Preventing a deeper jobs crisis”. Moreover, the report says more than 400 million new jobs will be needed over the next decade to absorb the estimated 40 million growth of the labour force each year.
The Global Employment Trends Report also said the world faces the additional challenge of creating decent jobs for the estimated 900 million workers living with their families below the US$ 2 a day poverty line, mostly in developing countries.
